I was doing a home improvement project a little while ago. (Installing a new toilet seat, if you must know.)

A song came on. I listen to Charter's digital cable music stations. This time it was the "Adult Alternative" channel.

It's a catchy tune, and I like it. Really. It's by Wheat, and this line repeats many times:

"I met a girl I'd like to know better, but I'm already with someone."

I was singing along, when it occurred to me:

I have no sympathy for this guy.

These are the kinds of problems I would love to have.

So who else is skipping the conventions?

Apparently only 7 percent of the electorate is undecided. Why would any of the remaining 93 percent of us bother with that canned slop they're dishing out in Boston and New York?

It's the political equivalent of elevator music: sometimes tolerable, often not, but never surprising. I'd rather watch the grass grow.

To put this in perspective, I'm a bit of a news junkie. My first job out of college was working on Capitol Hill (Senate side). I certainly will vote, and I remain intensely interested in political debate. I just can't find any at the conventions.

(And by "debate" I don't mean shows where you win by yelling over everybody else. Charlie Rose is more my speed, although I don't watch him either. I pretty much have my own views & don't rely on the professional opinion mongerers.)
